Contains calcium hypochlorite (Ca(ClO)2) granules that contain 70% of available chlorine. The fast dissolving calcium hypochlorite with a high available chlorine content, is typically used to shock the swimming pool into reducing the microbe level quickly and effectively. In soft water areas calcium hypochlorite increases the calcium levels in the water which prevents the leaching of calcium from the lining of the swimming pool and the pipes. Calcium hypochlorite can lead to deposition of calcium salts on the sides of the pool and could cause calcification in pool filters especially in hard water areas. The pH of calcium hypochlorite is between 11-12 and the optimum pH for pool water is 7.2, which is the same as the pH in human eyes. The pH has to be optimized to the range of 7.2-7.6 while adding calcium hypochlorite in order to increase the effectiveness of disinfection.
